Getting Started

  1. Make sure Scanner is installed.

  2. Make sure Corel Photo house is installed. NOT Print house.

  3. Make sure desktop in backroom is set to 800x600 at 16 bit (or higher).

  4. Start the program by clicking the Corel Photo House 5 icon on the desktop.

Making a Picture

  1. Once Corel Photo House 5 is loaded, click on CREATE IMAGE.

  2. On the next screen which comes up, change the WIDTH to 325 and HEIGHT to 420. If the dropdown box has either INCHES or MM selected, click the arrow and change this to INCHES. UNCHECK the Maintain Aspect Ratio checkbox.

  3. Click the APPLY button.

This opens a new, blank window. The reason for these steps so far is this: If you look at your ICD screens on the front end, you will notice that each banner which cycles is exactly the same size. If we simply started scanning items on the flatbed scanner, these slides would all be of different sizes and start to look real ugly, real fast. So we always work with the 325x420 template. We can resize the items we scan to fit in this window. This makes things look much neater in the end.

  1. You should now have the blank document on the right, and the GUIDED ACTVITIES menu on the left. Click on GET IMAGE.

  2. Click on SCAN PICTURE.

  3. Place the item you wish to scan on the flatbed scanner. The top can be completely removed and sat on top of the items if they are oversized. The top of the scanner is the end with the himges for the top. Lay the item as square to the edges as possible.

  4. Click the PROCEED button. This starts loading the scanner driver. Next it warms up the light (lamp) which does the actuall scanning. It then does a temporary scan to see what is on the scanner. This scan is quicker than your final scan. It then converts the image to black and white (for reasons unknown)

  5. Under the blue 4 where it says Make Optional Adjustments, there are 2 choices. ...to output type and ...to output size. Click the icon beside ...to output type.

  6. Change it from Black and White Photograph to Best Color Photograph and click OK. This changes the black and white image to color in the preview window.

  7. Using the mouse, select around the scanned picture. The scanner's final job will be to scan ONLY the area you selected.

  8. Under the blue 5, click SEND THE SCAN NOW. The driver screen will scan the item and then disappear. You will be brought back to the Corel screen with a new image in the window; the item you scanned. You must copy this picture into the window where you started the first picture.

  9. Click Edit -> Copy from the top menu.

  10. With the 2 windows open, click the top of the blank one; the white one, the one probably called New-1. Click Edit -> Paste. This will drop a copy of the scanned item into the blank window labeled New-1.

  11. You can now manipulate this file. You can make it bigger, smaller, taller or wider or move it around the screen. When you click on objects, the menu on the left will give you more detailed instructions. Rather than just rewrite those here, use the menu to the left.

Drag pictures (you can repeat steps 1 to 9 and add more than one scanned picture to this scene), add some text and play with the effects (found on the tabs on the bottom of the left-hand menu) and go until you're happy with the slide you've created.
Some handy tips include using the paint bucket to change the background from white to a more eye-friendly color, such as grey, make sure you don't color clash too much (bright red, bright blue).

Publishing to the ICD

Once the slide is created, you need to know which format to save it to, and where. We've created an ICDSLIDES directory on the backroom computer where you MUST save the files to. This is so that our backroom program can send the slides out to the lanes. Now you are ready to save.

  1. Click File -> Save.

  2. Make sure "Save as Type" option is set to Windows Bitmap Image (BMP). If it is not, click the arrow and scroll up or down until you find it.

  3. Enter a name where it says "File Name".

  4. Where it says "Save In", pull down the arrow and point to My Computer -> C. Then doubleclick the ICDSLIDES folder, and finally click save.

  5. In the ACCURATE folder on your desktop you will find a folder called ICD. Inside this ICD folder you will find a program called Send Slides to Lanes. Whatever files are in the ICDSLIDES directory will be sent to your ICD lanes. That means everything. If there was one you saved and don't want to send it down, then you will need to use Windows explorer to go and delete that file. Details on deleting are below.

  6. Doubleclick Send Slides to Lanes. You are done; you should see the slides show up on the lanes shortly.

Deleting Files

  1. Inside the Accurate folder on the desktop, is an ICD folder. Inside this ICD folder are 3 shortcuts to each lane's Slides directory. Clicking on a slide directory gives you a list of all the slides.

  2. Enter a slide directory and delete the file you want to remove from the slidelist. Click on the slide name and then hit the DEL key on the keyboard. Repeat this for the other 2 folders.
